Today marks a critical and long-awaited moment for the Muslim communities of Australia. I am pleased to share my independent submission to the Australian Government detailing my 54 recommendations.
My recommendations follow hundreds of hours of consultations and listening with Muslim communities and Muslim leaders across Australia, and my engagement with national and international experts. My report outlines the deep impact of anti-Muslim prejudice on our nation and provides a robust strategic framework with practical steps to address the problem.
Not too long from now, I hope we look back at this historic moment and see this as the turning point for addressing Islamophobia and turning words into meaningful action.
I welcome the Government’s response to my recommendations. They require action from every Australian so that we all combat Islamophobia together.
My report is now available to read at A National Response to Islamophobia: A Strategic Framework for Inclusion, Safety and Prosperity (PDF 4MB).
