Australia's Special Envoy to Combat Islamophobia
On 30 September 2024, the Australian Government announced the appointment of Mr Aftab Malik as Special Envoy to Combat Islamophobia in Australia.
As Special Envoy, Mr Malik will listen to and engage with Muslim Australians, the wider Australian community and all levels of government on the most effective way to combat the growing problem of Islamophobia.
Mr Malik has been appointed for a 3-year term from 14 October 2024. See the Special Envoy's Terms of Reference and Aftab Malik's inaugural speech.
While Mr Malik is tasked with advising government on ways to combat Islamophobia, his office – the Office of the Special Envoy to Combat Islamophobia (OSECI) – and his statements, are independent of government.
